International meeting on arts education

Version française

In June 2023, the International Week of Artistic and Cultural Education was a major milestone in Metz's 2019-2023 action plan as a UNESCO Creative City. The event was organized by the City of Metz, the Cité musicale-Metz and the University of Lorraine, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the French National Commission for UNESCO, the Moselle Department and the Metz Eurometropolis. It highlighted the commitment of Metz's cultural and educational players to Artistic and Cultural Education, around the City of Metz, which has been awarded the "100% EAC" label since 2022.

The week began with a scientific colloquium organized by Crem, the Université de Lorraine's mediation research center, on the theme of "Author residencies and EAC: what are the professional, cultural and educational challenges for local areas? This was followed by the Rencontres Internationales de l'Éducation Artistique et Culturelle, attended by over 15 international delegations from the UNESCO Creative Cities network.
Alongside the scientific and professional meetings, local cultural institutions and associations committed to "100% artistic and cultural education" offered a host of events accessible to all audiences.

The International meeting on arts education explored three challenges linked to the generalization of artistic and cultural education:
- Collective artistic musical practice
- Awakening of babies and very young children
- Social inclusion
Each of these challenges was explored at two round tables bringing together experts and cultural players. All the round tables began with a time for collective artistic practice: percussion, initiation to singing, sound painting, etc., or a presentation of a concrete initiative, such as the Ile aux bébés musicale (Musical Baby Island) run by the Metz library-media centers and the Cité musicale-Metz.
The International meeting on arts education brought together a dozen international delegations from UNESCO's Creative Cities network, including Ambon (Indonesia), Bogotá (Colombia), Kansas City (USA), Katowice (Poland) and Norrköping (Sweden), and over 200 professionals from France and Europe.
